Active shooter and stop the bleed training for Women United group

FORT PIERCE – Imagine yourself attending an event with friends or family and then an active shooter enters the room. Have you ever thought about what you would do in that situation? Unfortunately mass shootings have been happening frequently and getting the necessary training has become a priority for many people. United Way of St. Lucie County’s Women United group has taken a stance against active shootings and hosted a Lunch and Learn with active shooter and stop the bleed training for the attendees.

The training was conducted by D-Dey Response Group, a women, veteran owned and operated business with a mission of educating and empowering its clients in tactical medicine, marine medicine and weapons courses. Clients are offered a unique, scenario-based training methodology that enables them to learn and become prepared for real-world emergencies and shooting experiences.

Each attendee of the Lunch and Learn watched demonstrations on how to stop the bleed of a severely injured bystander. After watching the demonstration, the group practiced on each other on how to apply pressure to the arms and legs using a tourniquet if someone is severely bleeding during a mass shooting incident.

Women United is a community of women coming together to change the odds for individuals and families. Members get to be a part of a community of like-minded women who contribute their personal passions, best ideas, and unique strengths to the mission of building stronger communities. Women United will continue to have socials, volunteer opportunities, and luncheons to engage the women in the community.

The next Women United event will be Friday, November 15th at the Sunrise Theatre. Kristen Hadeed is the author of Permission to Screw Up: How I Learned to Lead by Doing (Almost) Everything Wrong. She will energize our community about leadership, entrepreneurship, and empowerment. Kristen has been featured on Forbes, PBS, Ted Talks, and more.
